1.  If you know French, you know Louisiana’s capital Baton Rouge means “red stick.”  It references the actual stick that once marked the boundary between two Native American tribes in the region.

It was reportedly a 30-foot-high painted pole . . . adorned with fish bones.

 

 

2.  In the ’80s, Russia gave Pepsi submarines and other naval ships to cover the cost of stocking the country with their soda.  They gave Pepsi such a big fleet that, briefly, Pepsi controlled the sixth most powerful military in the world.

 

 

3.  Asphalt isn’t a modern invention . . . it’s been around for more than 2,500 years.  The word comes from the Greek “asphaltos,” which means “secure.”

 

 

4.  Mixing alcohol with diet soda gets people drunk 18% faster than mixing alcohol with regular soda.  The sugar in regular soda slows down the effects of the alcohol
