A suburb in Ohio got an early start on Easter this past weekend, and it did NOT go well . . .
Beavercreek, Ohio is just outside Dayton. And a mall had a big Easter egg hunt for kids on Sunday. But it devolved into chaos after PARENTS got too into it.
It was supposed to go like this: One- and two-year-olds would go first and have their own section of the mall to search. Then three- and four-year-olds would search a different part of the mall with a 60-second head start on all the older kids. Adults weren’t allowed to pick up eggs.
More than 2,000 eggs were hidden around the mall, so there were plenty to go around. But as soon as it started, everyone made a mad dash.
People got knocked over, and adults were even seen SHOVING little kids out of the way. Around one in 20 eggs came with a prize of some kind, so that’s why.
Luckily, it doesn’t sound like anyone was seriously hurt. But some kids left empty-handed without finding any eggs.
The mall called the adults’ behavior “unacceptable,” and said they won’t be hosting anymore egg hunts in the future. Quote, “We feel the community will be better without the hunt.”
They also apologized for how some of the parents treated the 22 people who were there helping out. They included 10 staff members, and 12 girls from a local softball team.
