“The Batman” (PG-13)
Critics are describing this as more of a film noir murder mystery than a superhero flick, where Robert Pattinson’s version of Batman acts more like a detective, and his Bruce Wayne is more brooding and damaged by his own emotional trauma. The Riddler is the main villain and he’s played by Paul Dano. He’s murdering corrupt officials and leaving clues to draw the Batman into the investigation of a conspiracy involving his dad, Thomas Wayne, and a mob boss played by John Turturro. As for the rest of the cast, Andy Serkis is Alfred, Zoe Kravitz is Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright is Lt. Jim Gordon, and Colin Farrell wears prosthetics to play the Penguin.
“A Day to Die” (R)
After Kevin Dillon’s wife is kidnapped, he’s given one day to serve up $2 million to a local gang leader. So he puts together a crew to pull off a series of heists over the 12 hours he has left to get her back safely. Frank Grillo is one of the ex-military buddies who joins his crew, and Bruce Willis is in it as a corrupt police chief.
