1.  The four American time zones didn’t become standard until 1883, when the railroads needed them to run on time.  Until then, different towns kept their own time based on the sun.

 

 

2.  In Starbucks’ first two years of operation, they purchased their coffee beans from Peet’s Coffee & Tea.  Then in 1984, the original owners of Starbucks bought Peet’s . . . and they owned it until it went public in 2001.

 

 

3.  Only three countries in the world have constitutions that guarantee the right to bear arms . . . Guatemala, Mexico, and the United States.  And the U.S. is the only one without any explicit restrictions.

 

 

4.  George Harrison decided to write a song in 1968 based on the first words he saw when he opened a random book on his parents’ bookshelf.  The words he saw were “gently weeps,” so he wrote “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”.
