Matthew Perry died Saturday morning. He was only 54. Details are sketchy, but here’s what we know:
Matthew returned home from a two-hour round of pickleball and sent his assistant on an errand. When the assistant returned two hours later, he found Matthew dead in a hot tub. 911 was called, but it was too late.
It SOUNDS like cardiac arrest and / or drowning was the cause of death. TMZ says no illegal drugs were found on the scene, and there were no signs of foul play.
But the cops did find several prescription drugs: anti-depressants, anti-anxiety meds, and a COPD drug . . . which he may have needed due to his history of smoking.
Matthew was just as famous for his drug and alcohol issues as he was for playing Chandler on “Friends”.
He even opened his memoir, which he titled “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing”, like this: “Hi, my name is Matthew, although you may know me by another name. My friends call me Matty. And I should be dead.”
In addition to “Friends”, Matthew appeared in several hit movies, including “Fools Rush In” and “The Whole Nine Yards”. He also starred with Thomas Lennon on a short-lived revival of “The Odd Couple”.
His last credit was the 2017 miniseries, “The Kennedys After Camelot”.
As of last night, none of the other five main “Friends” cast members had commented on his death.
